The Issues
Protecting Prime Agricultural Land
It is imperative that County protect the prime Agricultural land that surrounds Woodland and Yolo County. I have a great appreciation for the hands who harvest the fields and the farmers who grow our food. Agriculture is a part of Woodland’s and rural identity, and it is the largest industry in our County. We must do everything we can to protect it. The historic profile of our agricultural community is intertwined with the economic prosperity of every rural town in
District 5, including the City of Woodland. We help feed the state and world. As a County Supervisor, I will continue to be a strong advocate of prime agricultural land, support mitigation policies, and vote for the Williamson Act Program.
Road Repairs
As I have met with neighbors and driven through rural County roads, the need for street/road repairs is apparent. When I entered office, I made it a priority. Rural residential roads were not repaved in over 40+ years. As a result, I brought forth the item to the Board for funding and resurfacing schedule. It was approved. I will continue to monitor the schedule and be a strong advocate for infrastructure road projects.
Support Public Safety
As a County Board of Supervisor, I will continue to support public safety officers and provide the necessary resources to protect our community. I will continue to work closely with the County Sheriff, County Deputies Association, and Fire Protection Districts to ensure effective response times are met, sufficient funding is available for training and other vital equipment. Furthermore, I will continue to work with the District Attorney, Probation, and the Public Defender’s office to ensure adequate resources and support is provided.
Homelessness
It is imperative that we continue to address the issue of homelessness through a multifaceted approach. Since there is no one magical solution to end homelessness, the County must continue to assess each individual case with compassion, but also fully enforce our ordinances and laws. We must continue to engage community stakeholders such as the City of Woodland, non-profits, community members, and the business community to address this issue.
Fiscal Responsibility
I will support an annual balanced budget. It is imperative that elected officials adopt a balanced and healthy annual budget to ensure appropriate services are provided to our residents along with a healthy reserve. I will support policies that are fiscally sound and vote to support vital services such as, but not limited to, public safety, housing, infrastructure projects, road and levee repairs, water projects, and homelessness services.
